Sarah - Director, Planning & Operations
Having completed a degree in South-East Asian Studies and developed a love of travel & adventure along the way, Sarah spent several years living and working in the region before deciding it was time to get a 'proper job' back in the UK. Naturally this meant a job in travel, so her passion could continue and she spent several years planning the land tours for an expedition cruising company. In early 2005 Sarah was one of the founders of The Different Travel Company and ever since has been planning and operating challenges and adventures all over the world. Some of Sarah's highlights from The Different Travel Company trips include canoeing down the Zambezi, seeing 4 of the world's top 20 highest mountains during a trek in Nepal, and seeing the difference made by our very first group out in Sri Lanka just months after the devastating Boxing Day tsunami.
Dave - Operations Executive
Dave graduated with a degree in Social Science but has always had a passion for travel. Dave has worked in travel for over 20 years planning and setting up tours, as well as personal travel adventures to Africa, Australia, Antarctica, South East Asia, Central and South America. Travel highlights include being part of an expedition team on an Antarctic cruise, getting up close and personal with cheetahs at a conservation project in South Africa, experiencing the migration in the Masaai Mara, bungee jumping off the bridge at Victoria Falls and snorkelling on the Great Barrier reef! Having set foot on all 7 continents and travelled to over 60 countries he's always looking for the next adventure.
Jill - Sales and Marketing
Jill has been with The Different Travel Company since 2006 and in that time she has introduced the company to hundreds of charities and organisations. As part of her role she has travelled all over the world managing our challenges. Highlights include canoeing down the Zambezi and working on community projects in Africa, Cambodia, Nepal, Vietnam and India. One of the biggest impacts of the work has been getting to know the people whose paths she would never have normally crossed, including the street children, tsunami victims and Mother Teresa's Sisters!
Lexi - Sales Support Executive
Lexi is a keen explorer and mountaineer and has travelled and climbed in over 40 countries throughout North and South America, Asia, Africa and Europe. She has a degree in Law and Criminology and also enjoys trekking, rock climbing and going to the gym. Some of Lexi's memorable experiences on Different Travel trips include seeing 3 leopards in the Serengeti, standing on the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro and meeting incredible people.
Anna - Sales Support
Anna is a Modern Languages graduate with a passion for travel. She always tries to learn something of the local language to be able to facilitate communication with local people on her travels. She is particularly fond of Latin America having spent a year of her degree course volunteering in Peru. Her Different Travel highlight was a volunteering trip to Sri Lanka where she helped with project work to benefit local people meeting many wonderful characters along the way. Trekking the Inca Trail is another favourite memory from her travels. Although she is mostly UK-based currently while her children are young, she has recently been challenging herself with marathon running.
Penny - Tour Manager
Penny has lived in Turkey, Malaysia, Ethiopia and America and has travelled to lots of other countries. She enjoys walking, dancing (tango in particular), skydiving and seeing friends for a catch up over coffee and cake. If she had to rate countries by coffee and cake quality Portugal, Spain, Turkey and Ethiopia are top 4. Her highlights from The Different Travel Company expeditions include the smile of the kids when they see their newly painted room at a project, the mix of the physical and mental challenge on Vietnam's Mt Fansipan and the beauty and sense of amazement you get when looking at the endless sand dunes from rock outcrops in the Sahara.
Adda - Tour Manager
Ada is a very keen photographer and is passionate about travel. One of her ambitions is to trek to Nepal's Everest Base Camp at 5364m. Ada's highlights from The Different Travel Company charity challenges include seeing how much of a difference it makes for the local communities when a group help out at a project and discovering life off the tourist trail. Some of her favourite memories include cycling around the temples of Angkor Wat in Cambodia and waking up to a beautiful sunrise over the Himalayas during the Annapurna trail trek in Nepal.
Becki - Tour Manager
Becki has travelled to over 50 countries, ranging from five star tours to solo backpacking across remote countries, and her love of hiking means she often finds herself climbing mountains somewhere in the world! She enjoys sports, spending time with friends and family, and discovering new things to see and do in familiar places like London. Becki's highlights include summiting Mt Kilimanjaro twice and trekking to Everest Base Camp; working with lions near the mighty Victoria Falls; and being part of passengers' life-changing experiences and seeing their reactions when they achieve the seemingly impossible.
Caroline - Tour Manager
Caroline's highlights from The Different Travel Company charity challenges include camping under the stars and spotting hippos by canoe on the Zambezi; planting 5000 mulberry trees with the locals in Nepal; and spending Christmas in Goa with the orphans cared for my Mother Theresa's Roses and seeing the smiles on the children's faces when Santa arrived!
Deborah - Tour Manager
Deborah is a professional ecologist and botanist with a passion for the protection and conservation of the world’s endangered habitats and species. Deborah has travelled, trekked and climbed extensively throughout Europe as well as North America, Nepal, Japan, Iceland and Ecuador. Living in the Lake District, Deborah at home in the mountains and is a keen, cyclist, mountain-biker and motorcyclist. Her highlights with Different Travel so far are watching the sun rise at Poon Hill in Nepal and summiting Eyjafjallajökull in Iceland in warm sunshine under a bluebird sky.
John - Tour Manager / Trip Medic
John is a keen sportsman with a particular interest in running, swimming and basketball. He enjoys yoga and spending time with his friends and family. His highlights from The Different Travel Company adventures include having a night time 'bath' in a rock pool full of ice cold glacier water from the Himalayas, with only a headlamp for illumination, the sound of waterfalls in the background and black mountain bears to keep him company, and the feeling of seeing Uhuru Peak for the first time and realising that he and the group were only meters away from the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro.
Jude - Tour Manager
Jude has been part of the Different Travel family for around 8 years and has led several trips across Africa, India and Vietnam in between her day job at a local airport. The biggest reward for Jude is to see how a group grows as a team, sharing unique and exciting experiences, outside normal comfort levels. She is always keen to try new things, and since learning at the age of 38, loves to ski in the winter and to get out kayaking in the summer. Jude's favourite place in the world so far has to be the Whitsunday Islands with its amazing snorkelling, unspoilt beaches, fresh food and unbelievable colours.
Vicky - Tour Manager
Vicky tries to balance a travel industry career with a passion for authentic travel experiences. She has a love of mountains and adrenaline and has travelled extensively learning along the way. Vicky is trained as a field guide (ranger) after living on the Shamwari Game Reserve in South Africa. Her highlights of The Different Travel Company charity challenges include having the opportunity to visit the Galapagos, helping clear beaches of plastic washed up from cruise ships and sharing a sunset with marine iguanas and visiting the dramatic Victoria Falls, which is her favourite place on earth.
Zoe - Tour Manager
Zoe currently works for the British Red Cross in learning and development. She has travelled extensively and even spent a year living in a tent with Sean Penn in Haiti, after the earth quake in 2010. Her Different Travel highlights include watching eagles soaring below her at Triund peak in the Himalayas, bathing in natural pools and fountains in Vietnam and taking an overnight train out of Delhi. Zoe loves meeting new people and enjoys spending time with Different Travel groups and encouraging people out of their comfort zones. She will almost certainly ask you to play 'favourite bit of the day' over dinner!
