About Child Protection

I have police clearance to work unsupervised with children in the UK. Can I work unsupervised with children on your holidays?

Only people permitted to work with children unsupervised in the UK (and who can supply the relevant paperwork to prove this) will be permitted to work unsupervised with children on our projects - and then at the discretion of those who run the projects. All other people will be supervised at all times. The supervision of access to children and those with access to them will be the responsibility of the people running the project, and not DTC staff. Therefore, the people who run the projects are the final authority and their say about what level of access is permitted is final and non-negotiable.

I don’t have police clearance to work unsupervised with children in the UK. Will I be allowed to work with children on your holidays?

Please see the above question. We ask for your understanding about the fact that we must ensure that the welfare of the children is our first and prime concern. Therefore, although you will be permitted to work closely with children, we ask that you abide by the policy of not being alone with children at any time, and that you check with the managers of any project on which you are working what is acceptable to them and what is not. Furthermore, DTC reserve the right to, at any time and without prior notice, refuse permission for an individual to work with children without having to give a reason, and to regard any such decision as non-negotiable.

We hope that our policy does not cause offence to those whose intentions are genuine, and ask for your understanding in an environment which is difficult and full of potential problems.
