This is an opportunity to learn basic survival skills, whether to equip you for an expedition, or just to have a go and see whether you could survive without the trappings of the modern world. During the weekend you will be given instruction in the following essential survival skills: Shelter building, water purification techniques, fire lighting techniques, preparation of wild game, trapping, plant identification and foraging, day and night navigation and search and rescue techniques.
Day 1 (Friday 23rd June 2017): Ashclyst Forest
Arrive at our meeting place by 5pm, for an introduction to the weekend, before we start on our first task of building our shelters for the night, with instruction on safe cutting techniques. Dinner is taken as a group at our site. Overnight: Sleeping in the forest in the shelters we have built! Building a poor shelter will mean little sleep so make sure it's good!
Day 2 (Saturday 24th June 2017) Ashclyst Forest
A good breakfast prepares us for a busy day learning more survival techniques. This morning we learn about grubs before an important fire lecture and learning water purification techniques. After lunch we are taught about trapping techniques and receive navigation training which is put to the test after dinner with our night navigation exercise. Overnight: Sleeping in the forest in our own shelters
Day 3 (Sunday 25th June 2017)
After breakfast we discuss search and rescue considerations, before destroying our shelters and returning our site to normal. We aim to finish around midday for you to travel home.
N.B. This itinerary may change due to unusual weather patterns, the ability of the group and so on. We will do our best to keep to the set itinerary however we cannot be held responsible for changes that might occur outside of our control. In all such circumstances your local guide and tour leader will have the final say in the interest of the health and safety of the group.
