Join ActionAid for this First Hand Experience in Mozambique. You will be building a library at a secondary school in Palmeira village, Manhica District. There is no library in the entire district, which means that over 1,500 school children don't have access to the books they need to support their education. The nearest library is over 100km away in Maputo, which is time-consuming for pupils to travel to when they could be focusing on their studies. Many families can't afford the cost of their children taking the journey to the library in Maputo, so some pupils do not get the grades they need to succeed and are often forced to drop out of school.

Tasks will depend on the stage of building you arrived for, but you could be digging foundations, clearing land, mixing concrete or mortar, laying bricks or blocks, helping to install window or door frames, painting or plastering. You will be working alongside the local people and you will be under the direction of an ActionAid construction supervisor and skilled local craftsmen. There is no requirement to have any specific training or skills in advance of travel, and we find the sharing of local techniques just a small part of the engagement between community members and our supporters.
