You will spend the days trekking through primary jungle, encountering varied terrain and landscapes including paddy fields, rubber plantations, fruit orchards and rivers, to reach Kinabalu National Park. Along the way we'll learn about the incredible ecosystem of the area, and jungle survival skills such as making traps and identifying edible fruits and foods.

After breakfast we transfer by bus to Kota Belud, where we start our trek. Today we will pass through villages, farms and primary jungle, gradually ascending from 150m up to 450m for approximately 5 hours. Our route passes through paddy fields, rubber plantations and fruit orchards with a couple of river crossings along the way! This evening we camp at Kundasang village, where you can meet the local villagers.
Day 4 (Monday 16th October 2017): Kundasang – Riverside Camp
We pack up after breakfast and continue our trek through primary jungle towards camp number two, taking approximately 7 hours. Day 5 (Tuesday 17th October 2017): Riverside Camp – Jungle Campsite
Today we continue our trek, through primary jungle. There is a steep incline early on in today's trek (45°) as we ascend quickly to 1189m but at the top of the ridge we enjoy amazing views over Borneo's Crocker mountain range and across to the sea beyond. This afternoon we pass along the edge of the Kinabalu National Park, learning about its incredible variety of exotic plant life, before descending to 1031m, where our next campsite awaits. This evening we will learn more jungle skills.
Day 6 (Wednesday 18th October 2017): Jungle Campsite - Kundasang
Today we'll follow part of the track which dates back to Sir Hugh Low's early exploration of Mt Kinabalu, before arriving back at the village of Kundasang, where we spend our last night camping with our trek support team.
Day 7 (Thursday 19th October 2017): Kundasang – Kinabalu Park - Sandakan
Bidding our support team farewell, we set off this morning for Kinabalu National Park, to enjoy a leisurely trek in the foothills and learn more about the unique ecosystem of this area. After lunch at a restaurant we travel across the island to the town of Sandakan, located on the north coast of Borneo. And check in to the Sepilok Jungle Resort for our final two nights.
Day 8 (Friday 20th October 2017): Sandakan
This morning we pay a visit to the world-famous Sepilok orang-utan Sanctuary, where you will have the chance to see and learn about these amazing animals, as they are slowly reintegrated into the wild. After returning to the hotel for a lazy afternoon, we take to the waters this evening for a cruise across Sandakan Bay to the Tanjung Aru River, in search of more wildlife in their mangrove habitats. We'll enjoy a farewell dinner at a local restaurant before returning to the hotel.
Day 9-10 (Saturday 21st - Sunday 22nd October 2017): Sandakan – Kota Kinabalu - London
Today we transfer to Sandakan Airport for the short flight to Kota Kinabalu, in time for our overnight flight back to London (via Kuala Lumpur or Singapore), arriving the next day.
